The purpose of Welch Packaging’s leadership development program is to develop talent within the organization to provide an internal pipeline to support our current and future growth. Our development model focuses on four key components on three stages:

Management Candidate (MC)
Management Candidate (MC)
Recent College Graduate, or candidates with 2-3 years business experience. Class begins in June in Elkhart with the goal of developing into sales, customer service, plant, or general manager.
Sales, customer service, and production roles. Classes to be held 2-3 times per year in Elkhart to support continued development in each critical business area.

Management Candidate Program- Beginning your career at Welch Packaging is about OPPORTUNITY. We provide the opportunity, you provide the willingness to learn, engage in our business, and take advantage of the training & development opportunities we created to enable your success. Learning the components of the business helps entry-level Management Candidates develop leadership and business acumen that builds a strong foundation for multiple roles across our organization. As a participant in the Welch Packaging Management Candidate program, candidates will have an opportunity for exposure in production, customer service, sales, quality, design, and other critical roles that support our mission: To Provide The Ultimate Corrugated Experience. As the first phase of our leadership development opportunity, the Management Candidate.


Program model focuses on the following components:

1) Production Rotation* – an opportunity to learn the business from the ground-up. Participants will work on various machine centers across our Production operations to learn key areas of Safety, Quality, and Productivity. Within this production rotation is the initial training & development curriculum which provides exposure to our company history, mission, vision, values, strategy, and core systems & processes within our business.


2) Functional Role Placement* – Upon conclusion of the Production Rotation, participants will be placed into their initial role with Welch. Aligned to both your career path interests and needs of the business, this is your first opportunity in a functional role within Production, Customer Service, Materials (Purchasing, Tooling), Design or Sales.


Continued Leadership Development –  As an integrated associate at Welch Packaging, you continue to have leadership development opportunity in our Core Training and our Future Executive Programs. Based on an assessment of your ongoing performance, contribution, and potential for roles of increasing responsibility, you will have an opportunity to further enhance and develop your leadership and business acumen skills through participation in our Continued Leadership Development training curriculum.


This curriculum is segmented into two distinct development paths:

1. Core Training – training & development focused on our core departments.

2. Future Executive – training & development focused on emerging  Sr. Level leadership within our business

*Throughout your Production Rotation and time within your initial role, you will participate in many training & development courses that will provide you the opportunity to develop an understanding of our business and your individual strengths and areas of interest.
